Geography

"Geography is the tapestry that weaves the world together"

Gil Grosvenor

Our geography curriculum develops pupils to be global citizens with a keen sense of wonder. Over time, they acquire a secure geographical understanding of the world around them. We teach them to apply that understanding critically, in a range of scenarios, so that they fully understand the world around them and their role in protecting it.

Our curriculum ensures a blend of both practical geographical disciplinary skills and a broad and balanced base of substantive knowledge, supporting children to become young geographers. Using frequent and regular retrieval practice alongside dialogic teaching, our classrooms - and the wider outside world - become a hub of geographical enquiry which children actively engage with.

Supported by a range of resources, including weather stations, a geographical reading spine and a myriad of maps, we believe geography is often beyond the confines of a classroom. Therefore, all students undertake regular practical fieldwork, both inside and outside the school grounds. As well as being rich in cultural capital, this also means learning is contextualised, linking their learning to national and global current affairs.
